This new two-day event will bring together public service leaders at all levels. It aims to inspire them to seize the linked opportunities of digital and devolution to redesign services and support for local communities.
Running on the back of the government’s digital by default initiative, the Better Connected event will help service leaders see how they can reach the level of being able to provide a “smooth, frictionless service” for citizens. The government’s digital initiative aims to get all council services online by 2020. With estimates placing the annual savings from moving all services online at £2billion per year, its clear why local communities need to embrace this initiative and move towards being digital by default.
The average cost of a digital transaction is 15p in comparison to telephone and face-to-face costs of £2.83 and £8.62 respectively.
The government has also provided a set of design principles for service providers in the 21st century to aid this transition. It sets out best practice and events such as Better Connected allow providers the opportunity to see these best practice examples in action. They can see other users who have used a product to completely revolutionise their digital presence, ask questions and see if that solution would benefit their organisation.
MyLife Citizen Portal: Digital 2020
Reflecting on one of the government’s key design principles, that being, ‘Make things open: it makes things better’, we are dedicated to delivering software built with open source and open APIs. We are passionate about promoting the work of our Local Authority customers. We want to share our 25 years of knowledge and experience. We want to help shape the industry by continuing to innovate our products to make the lives of citizens that use them easier.
Reflecting on the success gained from our MyLife citizen engagement portal and the digital innovations that we are bringing to the market, we will be running the Digital Delivery of Adult Social Care Workshop at the Better Connected event. This workshop will discuss what digital transformation really means and what true success should look like. We will be running the session alongside our colleagues in the ADASS Informatics Network. Representatives from ADASS spoke at our 2016 Community Conference.
Building digital services, not websites
Another key government design principle is that providers should build digital services, not websites.
We are passionate about delivering real change through digital.
Join us at the BetterConnected event to discover how we have transformed processes across Children’s and Adult Social Care and are delivering on the Digital2020 agenda. Our MyLife citizen engagement portal was launched in light of the personalisation agenda more than five years ago and is now used by more than nine million citizens across the country.
The success of the MyLife citizen portal can be pointed to the fact that we have created a portal with rich functionality that can help users interact with providers and their community more efficiently. The MyLife portal is flexible solution able to work in a wider capacity to not only meet but exceed the needs of wider government organisations such as Children and Families, alongside housing and fostering and adoption. You can create online forms through the system that allow users to self-assess and get an indication of the support that will potentially be available to them. This feature was previously unavailable to citizens, who would be forced to call through to the council to get assistance, which was a largely time consuming and expensive process.
This is for everyone
Simple yet elegant design is a key tenant of the 21st century. Technology must be easy to use and not limited to those with technical experience. Our MyLife portal has been designed for quickness and ease of use content management tools enable users the opportunity to tailor information with minimum effort. With budget cuts being levied against local government, it is now more important than ever to be able to utilise systems that require minimal training and staff overheads.
Responsive design is now considered a must when designing websites as more than half of those viewing your site will do so via mobile or tablet. A site designed solely for desktop is no longer good enough. MyLife uses the latest responsive technology to ensure that all users, no matter which device they are using, receive the same user experience.
25 years of innovation and growth
We have been developing ground-breaking technology for 25 years. We consistently look at the sector, see what challenges workers face and how technology can assist them. Our desire to make a difference is not limited to creating technology, one of our sister companies, Pavilion, produces industry publications and provides digital spaces where industry leaders can share best practice and latest government updates. We also employ a specialist division, Partners for Change, that provides transformation and change management services to Adults and Children’s Services, as well as continuing health care. We have unequalled experience in aligning people, processes and technology.
